The journey

My dear Amma.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Amma, do let me tell you all about mine. The maid had not come for the past two days and the house not only looked decidedly disheveled; it also felt grubby and uninviting. Saturday evening left me deciding that I would clean up on Sunday, as it seemed to me that the maid would likely not be there that day either.

I had coffee and started by watering the plants. They had been looking deprived and sad, but immediately perked up and sprang to life.

After that there was de-cobwebbing, dusting, sweeping and mopping followed by washing the vessels and then my clothes. Finally, I made lunch. Amma, you know how I normally am when there is work to be done. My focus is always on the end point and the process is just something that I hurry through resentfully and most often in a slipshod fashion.

Yesterday was different. It seemed that the act of cleaning was itself something to be grateful for. You were with me throughout, Amma, helping make light the work, and at the end I was as glowing and luminous as the house.

When I got into bed last night, my arms and shoulders were tired and aching, but a sense of gratitude and happiness saturated my being. I felt so blessed.

People always say that life is all about the journey, not the destination.Yesterday, was the first time I truly experienced that.Thank you dear Amma.

Your loving daughter,

Vidya
